as to that, I encountered a really strange difference in senses yesterday. u know the word cloakroom? in america it's where u leave ur jacket, but in Britain it's.. a lavatory!

"Pumps" are high-heeled in America and flat in the UK. In my country, if you say "football", it's neither American football nor soccer. What a wonderful world we live in!
